Before your days of D.A.N.C.E. there were Swedish electropop cries of W.E.E.K.E.N.D.

Start your weekend off with a smile.

Komatrohn - W.E.E.K.E.N.D.

This weekend I shall be seeing some of the finest that the Queen's Commonwealth has to offer on the electro front, the mountee's that are Dandi Wind and down under kids The Presets. It'll be alright i'm sure.

Dandi Wind - Balloon Factory

The Presets - Black Background

Label appreciation time, Ghostly International. Puts out consistently great and varied music, like Solvent, Matthew Dear, Benoit Pioulard, Mobius Band... I could go on. Also their compilations are of premium quality.

Matthew Dear - Elementary Lover (DJ Koze Remix)

Good indie music for me, is becoming increasingly hard to find. This here is good indie music.

Vampire Weekend are from the indie-rock mecca NYC, they sound really fresh and will no doubt create waves in the right seas over the coming months, having already picked up acclaim from Stylus and many other blogs. They make a sound that's easy to get into, hard to get out of. yay

Vampire Weekend - Bryn

Thee More Shallows are another pretty solid act around right now, their LP The Book Of Bad Breaks is by no means an easy listen, but is worth it. And this following song is just great!

Thee More Shallows - Night At The Knight School

Acidic synth basslines are for yes in this Switch remix of Ben Westbeech's summery song Dance With Me.

Ben Westbeech - Dance With Me (Switch Remix)

Citizen records come up trumps again with a wonderful compilation mixed by Vitalic, there are some gems to be found within it. Like the following.

Huntemann & Bodzin - Message In A Box

French science fiction comedy has never been the top of my favoured film genres, i'm more of a Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan romance type. But having heard of the soundtrack to Steak done by Tellier, Oizo and SebastiAn it might be worth me press-ganging one of my French speaking friends into watching it with me and telling me if it's any good. The soundtrack certainly is. Sounds like a more funky Neverending Story soundtrack in parts. Available HERE.

Tellier, Oizo and SebastiAn - C.H.I.V.E.R.S.
(alt link)

Part of The Neverending Story soundtrack was actually composed by the father of disco, Giorgio Moroder, who believe it or not in addition to laying down the grooves also designed his own ultimate super-luxury, super-performance sports car back in the 1980's. However, world recession put paid to any hopes of the car being produced for real.

Giorgio Moroder - First Hand Experience In Second Hand Love (alt link)

The last I heard, Karin Dreijer was pregnant, that will be one kool kid. But if The Knife was pregnant and had a child it would give birth to something very artistic as well as tuneful, yes i'm on about the darlings of Gothenburg/Berlin, Zeigeist. They're pretty much amazing and apparently if you catch them live they are double ace!

Zeigeist - Giving You Up (alt link)

The next song was a release a few years ago on Kitsune's Midnight meanderings, it's by Parisians Archigram, the song Padre features Goldfrappish vocal hums and a harpischord circa 1498 A.D. all topped off with a confident beat. Good stuff!

Archigram - Padre

Stumbled across Australian Pop Compilation 2002 again recently, it's so fun and nice (my two favourite descriptive words) Personal highlight off this comp for me is not your Boyracers or Lucksmiths, but Fog And Ocean and their cutesy lo-fi electropop ballad Wave And A Sigh.

Fog And Ocean - Wave And A Sigh (alt link)

T-Shirt: Concrete Hermit

I throw like a girl.

Mr. Mena, Mr. Miyagi and Mr. Oizo are now issuing dance warrants upon you all.

Cicada - The Things You Say (Mr. Miyagi Remix) (alt link)

Mr. Oizo - Ovoma (alt link)

Mr. Mena - Shake The Disco (alt link)

Can't get enough of the Cicada remix, it's like a speedier Sta, really quite good!

That's a pretty nice hoodie yeah, well if you get one, do not wear it when going for a drink in a narrow-minded country town. Ridicule from drunk Primark shoppers, denial of entry into places of generic decorum...... needless to say it was an early night. Still, I was left feeling smug in the knowledge that i'm not such a narrow-minded person with no interests or meaning to their life.

Music, it's Sunday, nothing to intense please. I really really love Mice Parade, the New York act show an inventive and highly individual take on post-rock / electronica, the latest self-titled album is out on the ever impressive FatCat, and the following song is a reference to The Minutemen album Double Nickels On The Dime. Beautiful stuff it really is.

Mice Parade - Double Dolphins On The Dime (alt link)

Errors don't make errors, they make evoking electronica with a quirky twist.

Errors - Salut! France (alt link)

To coincide with the news of a new Stereo Total album here is my favourite Stereo Total song. Which may be replaced by one of the new tracks after i've given it a proper listen.

Stereo Total - Do The Bambi (alt link)

And finally, try not to be wowed at about the 2min 30 mark of this new Her Space Holiday song.

Her Space Holiday - Panda Strikes

oh yeah, i messed with the blog layout too, possibly a bit cliche I dunno.

Last week I went shopping for a suit. I went into Reiss, I knew they already had fine garments there, but I just was not expecting nice music to boot, one of my favourite acts of recent months Thieves Like Us were playing all the while I was in there, that really impressed me. I'd love to work in retail and get to choose the songs that play in the background. But anyway, Thieves Like Us, pretty good? Darned excellent! And i'm not usually one to look favourably upon acts with iconic artists song titles for a name. Creating a fuss near you pretty soon, and deservedly so.

Thieves Like Us - Headlong Into Night (alt link)

Thieves Like Us - Fass (alt link)

Thieves Like Us - Program Of The First Part

When I heard Human Puppets minimal synth madness it conjured up memories of listening to Martin Rev years ago, I liked that a lot.

Human Puppets - Heartbeat (alt link)

And for you Hype Machine fans, there's a new kid on the block, JiwaMusic. It's similar in that it aggregates all mp3 blogs like myself and the better ones, but it beats Hype Machine hands down in the fact that you can search for your favourite full-length tracks posted by your favourite blogs, then bundle the tracks into an embeddable player and create your own unique playlist full of upto 100 full-length tracks, ideal for your MySpace or whatever.

This is a quick and quite predictable one I made whilst bored at work today.

13 June 2007

**again be patient with mp3 links loading, sorry**

Thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud thud.

Persistent processed beats are the order of the day, with quite trancelike White Rainbow and the usual incessant throbbing from Motor (their new album is OUT) Good stuff all around.

White Rainbow - Newoverdubs (Soft NRG Remix)
(alt link)

Motor - Unhuman (alt link)

And as the beats recede, Snuten step up. They are crazy Norwegians, friends of Fox n'Wolf, deliverers of high-comedy lyrics, synth filled melodies, beards, and rapping.

Snuten - WW III (alt link)

Update time. In months past i've posted fantastic tracks by Numéro# and datA. Recently Numéro# made it onto the zeitgeist of electronic music compilations, that of Kitsune. And datA has released the acer than ace Aerius Light EP. Both of these acts are really quite special, and both make me extremely happy when I listen to them. Embrace them HERE and HERE.

Numéro# - Chewing-Gum Fraise (avec Omnikrom) (alt link)

datA - The Last Symphony (alt link)

I gravitated to this video today for the first time in a few months. Great.

11 June 2007

I love Hemstad. I want them to keep making fantastic songs and performing ace shows forever more.

Hemstad - Tuff Ungdom

That is all. Bye.

Actually no, following on from yesterdays posting of one of my many favourite songs from times past, here's another, this time from Les Georges Leningrad... who are rumoured to have called it a day, shame.

Les Georges Leningrad - Supa Doopa

Bye.

10 June 2007

Sorry about the brief hiatus. Been snowed under this week with real-life commitments and the like. Alas, I am back, back with simple oscillator movements, persistent beats and general goodness. Roman Salzger is a top purveyor of German tech-house. Get all of his fine recordings from Beatport

Roman Salzger - 12bit Dancer

I always love recommendations from friends, particularly friends with ace taste. Recently I was told to check out Mansbestfriend (aka Anticon's rapper Sole) You should too. His album Poly.sci.187 is a very solid and thoroughly enjoyable body of sample laden hip-hop/electronica. Get it HERE.

Mansbestfriend - High Noon And Sobered

With the new Alan Braxe and Kris Menace track Lumberjack floating around that I can't get enough of recently I thought it'd be appropriate to let you know that I love Alan Braxe and that him and Fred Falke made one of my favouritest songs ever. It goes like this....

Alan Braxe & Fred Falke - Rubicon

6 June 2007

Full on electrobit-pop nonsense today guys!

Boy 8-bit started of making tracks on his Amiga, now he uses the computer he calls CROM. Ace tunes full of bass and bleep ensue.

Boy 8-bit - Throw It Up

Acid Jacks - Awake Since '78 (Boy 8-bit Remix)

Then big thanks to Discodust for posting this amazing track by Frankmusik, it's like a more coherent Max Tundra crossed with every good electropop song ever. Apparently an EP is on the way, and if this track is anything to go by it will be 'well good'

Frankmusik - 3 Little Words

4 June 2007

*Be Patient With MP3 Links - They're Taking A While To Respond*

So last post I brought up a remix done by Phil Kieran, he makes one-third of Irish techno-electro-metal act Alloy Mental, their sound will please everyone the ravers, the goths and the indie kids. Their 'We Have Control' LP is out and they're out about about in the UK in the summer months!

Alloy Mental - Fortunate One

Alloy Mental - Alloy Mental

Now for some retro space-age stuff with Bogdan Irkuk, nostalgic slO-mO italO discO perfect for your Sunday evening at home relaxing before settling down to watch Heartbeat.........TV is dead (see below) Anyway, Bogdan is Bulgarian and has The Distant EP available for your listening pleasure.

Bogdan Irkuk - Curare

Here's one of my most listened songs recently, it has been posted elsewhere, but it is worthy of infinite postings. Khan you feel it?

Khan - Favor After Favor

So yeah, i've never really been an avid TV viewer with the exception of Neighbours. But now there's TV on demand.... I signed up to Joost, it turns a computer into an instant on-demand TV without any need for additional set top box and for free, just great if your an occasional viewer like me. Also it look's really really swish (style-over substance and all that) sign up HERE. There's a few indie-ish channels and some nice documentaries.... if you're into that. Or plenty of vacuousness.
